The name "Modrastá Inaď" represents the initial impression that comes to mind when this word is pronounced or read. In my view, Modrastá Inaď is a personal name for the feeling that arises when a strong summer storm begins, bending trees, and one can smell the asphalt while crashing waves break against rocky cliffs in the ocean. It's that moment when a strong warm wind blows through tall grass, wheat, and so on, in the meadows, forests, clearings, and fields of Bánovce, Kšín, and Ľútová.
The name was created without initially assigning a specific meaning to it. One day, I decided that I wanted to create new words. These words were formed by combining other words to create terms that sound Slovak. Of course, these words have no inherent meaning unless the human mind gets involved in their creation. The mind will automatically try to create meaning for words that have none. This crazy act of creation is incredibly fascinating to me.
Empty words are great because we can consciously insert our own feelings/resonance into them, representing what they would mean.
I pondered for a long time on how to name the composition. Since all the words that came to mind were incredibly dull, I needed something innovative and unique. I was also inspired by my distant friend Ľuboš Kotlár, who created his own word - "Nowlessness" to describe the absence of the present moment. The title of this composition initially circulated as "Vrská Inaď - Modrá inaď," and eventually became "MODRASTÁ INAĎ."
HOW IT CAME TO BE
The composition originated as a school assignment titled "teenage music." Honestly, I initially thought I would have to create a 15-second catchy song for TikTok, which I don't condemn, but it's not the kind of music I'm interested in creating. So, I took a different approach and immersed myself in what I listened to as a teenager. I delved into moments when I was discovering who I was in contrast to myself, culture, and the world. Often, what we listen to shapes our reality and automated behavior through repeated exposure to the themes and thoughts of others in music.
It really matters what we listen to, especially during our teenage years. That's why my goal wasn't to recreate current trends or what teenage music is, but rather what it could be or what topics it could address. I'm fully aware that in the end, it doesn't sound like something for teenagers at all, haha.
WHAT IT'S ACTUALLY ABOUT
The composition talks about a person burdened by the weight of the past (often stemming from the concept that we are all born with a social background from our families and inherit their generational traumas, programs, messages, etc. In addition to the social background of the family, everyone is also influenced by the cultural background of the country they live in. Habits and conditioning contribute to shaping how a person approaches others, themselves, and the world.)
The protagonist of the composition feels a sense of nostalgia for their childhood days. They find themselves in a life moment where they unconsciously make their situation harder and bigger than it actually is. Like the main character, many people don't realize how they hold the dagger turned against themselves and blame external circumstances for what they haven't resolved within themselves. However, as the composition says, there's always time to change, to face one's shadow. All shadows, conditioning, psychological triggers, and unresolved traumas can be gradually transformed through inner work, where one confronts who they are (for example, through Jungian shadow work) and overcomes their own traumas.
MERGING MUSIC AND SYMBOLISM:
Sea and Ocean
Seas and oceans are the beginning of life on Earth and symbolize formlessness, unpredictability, and chaos. The ocean can also be seen as a symbol of stability since it can exist almost unchanged for centuries. The ocean is considered boundless, a place where one can easily get lost, and therefore symbolically attributed to the infinite length of life and the way one can get lost on the journey of life.
Spruce Trees
Spruce is an evergreen coniferous tree that symbolizes (at least in relation to Nordic tradition) the enduring forces of nature and the continuity of life. In Slavic cultures, it was used ritually and superstitiously in funeral ceremonies and protective spells.
Regarding death, nothing truly dies. Everything just transforms into something else, something new. Everything old and dead gives life to something else, something new. This composition explores this cyclic nature. When we overcome one block, another one comes, but we will always be stronger for having experienced the previous one.
Dagger
It represents the symbol of courage, strength of spirit, and self-protection. It also reflects loyalty and standing up for what is right, even when it's difficult. This symbol also speaks about trusting the power of our convictions and being empowered by our infinite potential. To love others and oneself desperately and to be fearless in the face of the unknown.
lyrics
:SLOVÁ:
Tiché more buráca, prelieva vodu
Usádza staré nánosy minulých vekov
Vo vzduchu cnie sa mi vôňa smrekov
A ja stratný lapám po dychu
Nevšímam si ako držím dýku
Obrátenú voči mojej hrudi, voči môjmu telu
Vždy je čas to zmeniť svojim tieňom čeliť
Vyhrať hru bezmennú. proti svojmu strachu z procesu
Vždy je čas to zmeniť svojim tieňom čeliť
Obrátenú voči mojej hrudi, voči môjmu telu
Vždy je čas to zmeniť svojim tieňom čeliť
Vyhrať hru bezmennú. proti svojmu strachu z procesu
Vždy je čas to zmeniť svojim tieňom čeliť
Obrátenú voči mojej hrudi, voči môjmu telu
Vždy je čas to zmeniť svojim tieňom čeliť
Vyhrať hru bezmennú. proti svojmu strachu z procesu
Vždy je čas to zmeniť svojim tieňom čeliť
ENG TRANSLATION:
The quiet sea roars, spilling water
Settling the old layers of past ages
In the air, I smell the scent of spruce trees
And I, lost, gasp for breath
Unaware of how I hold a dagger
Reversed against my chest, against my body
There's always time to change, to face my shadow
To win the nameless game against my fear of the process
There's always time to change, to face my shadow
Reversed against my chest, against my body
There's always time to change, to face my shadow
To win the nameless game against my fear of the process
There's always time to change, to face my shadow
Reversed against my chest, against my body
There's always time to change, to face my shadow
To win the nameless game against my fear of the process
There's always time to change, to face my shadow
